API 1104 Code Clinic (Pipelines and Related Facilities)

The API 1104 Online Code Clinic serves as a detailed road map and offers a new level of immersion in one of the oil and gas industry’s most fundamental documents: API 1104 – Welding of Pipeline and Related Facilities. Led by an experienced AWS instructor, participants will learn to quickly locate salient sections and use important tables and figures in time-sensitive testing or working environments. This comprehensive, 4-hour course features detailed, easy-to-understand explanations as well as interactive questions, quizzes, and a final exam designed to help participants prepare for the code book certification exam.

The American Welding Society is accredited by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) and is accredited to issue the IACET CEU.

How much do I need to know before taking this course?

No previous knowledge is required. This course is designed to guide you in navigating and reading the API 1104 code in clear, easy-to-understand language and easily digestible chunks of information. Participants will learn to quickly locate important paragraphs, charts and tables, which is crucial to navigating the code in a timed testing environment and time sensitive working conditions.

Who should take this course?

The API 1104 online course is ideal for persons preparing to sit for the CWI exam and have selected API 1104 for the code book portion (Part C of the CWI exam). The course is also ideal for active CWIs interested in familiarizing themselves with the API 1104 code as part of their efforts to comply with the requirements for 9-year recertification. Please visit CWI certification for more information about 9-year recertification. Of course, non-CWIs interested in enhancing their educational credentials will also benefit from this self-paced, online program.

How long do I have to complete this course?

Participants have access to the course content 24-hours a day for a period of 30 days from the date of registration. After this 30-day period, participants will have an additional 10 days to pass the practice exam. The exam can be activated before the end of the 30-day period if the participant has completed all the modules.

Does this course include a completion exam?

Yes. Upon completion of the final course module, participants are prompted to take an online exam designed to evaluate their comprehension of the subject matter. The online practice exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions and must be completed within a 2-hour period. Participants who do not attain the 75% passing score may attempt to retake the exam a second time. Participants who pass the online practice exam earn an AWS Certificate of Completion and 4 Professional Development Hours (PDHs). The AWS Certificate of Completion can be downloaded and printed directly from the webpage.

Do I need to purchase any other materials?

Yes. This course is designed to be used in conjunction with the API 1104 code book. Using the code book helps participants replicate and practice the navigational strategies that are required to successfully complete the open book portion (Part C) of the CWI exam.

Do I receive Professional Development Hours (PDHs) for completing this course?

Yes. Participants who receive a score of 75% or above on the practice exam will receive an AWS Certificate of Completion and 4 Professional Development Hours (PDHs).

Can I use these Professional Development Hours (PDHs) for recertification?

Yes. Professional Development Hours (PDHs) earned through AWS online courses can be applied towards recertification, provided the PDHs are earned during the certification period. Persons who successfully complete this online course will receive 4 PDHs. Candidates who pass the API 1104 endorsement exam will receive 30 PDHs.
