By code requirement, a Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) must be properly qualified and accepted by a relevant engineering authority. CWIs or SCWIs who hold the Welding Procedure Qualifier Endorsement have demonstrated that, with appropriate engineering oversight, they are able to qualify WPSs.
Before sitting for the endorsement exam, candidates are encouraged to refresh their memories on some of the finer points on qualifying WPSs.
