AWS Volunteers Reap Benefits

Networking is an essential ingredient for the individual looking to enhance their career. Professionals and entry level workers alike, attempt to make the right connections to grow in their respective fields. Volunteering your time and expertise is an excellent way to discover the relationships that will help you succeed. The American Welding Society provides individuals many opportunities to volunteer their time and expertise. From speaking at an Education Conference to joining a Technical Committee, there is an opportunity for everyone.

AWS produces forums that people can share ideas and learn new information. In 2014, AWS will host education conferences on the topics of energy, pipeline, stainless steel, weld cracking, aluminum, heat treatment, and additive manufacturing.

By participating at one of these conferences, individuals are provided the opportunity to establish industry connections that last a lifetime. Other benefits include:

  • Accumulation of professional development hours that can be used towards AWS re-certification.
  • Learn about new processes, technologies, and materials from industry experts.
  • Gain stature and recognition by presenting at an AWS conference.

For additional information on presenting at an AWS Education Conference please visit the author abstract submission page.

Volunteers on AWS Technical Committees provide the knowledge to develop standards and other technical publications to serve the ever changing welding industry. Not only can you benefit by meeting leading experts, others benefit from your experience. Pave the way for the future of welding.

Industry standards are written for the industry by the industry and anyone with any range of experience is welcomed to join. All committee members are categorized as either:

  • Consultants
  • Producers
  • Users
  • Educators
  • General Interest

Interested in seeing what goes on at committee meetings? All meeting are open to the public, contact the technical department for a schedule. Please visit the AWS Technical Services webpage for a listing of technical committees and an application to join.

  1. I am interested in volunteer work at AWS. I’m currently trying to pass my CWI exam and I’m 0 for 2. So all the experience and help I can get would be great.

  2. I have my certs as a pipe welder. I want to know can I be a volunteer for the pipeline welding?
